Creating opportunities for learning, sharing and networking
Meet the Cape Town Committee (2019) Travis c
I’ve worked for the better part of my career in the banking industry with many different and diverse people and teams across various disciplines and roles. My passion for working with people has grown over the years. When I was given the opportunity to work with an Agile team as a Product Owner in 2013, I found a whole new world that I wished I’d discovered years earlier.
I’m excited to work with the passionate group of people on the SUGSA committee and help make a difference in the Agile community where the learning opportunities will no doubt be endless.
I’ve been a scrum master for a number of years now and what a journey it has been! Discovering the SUGSA community has been a wonderful experience that led to my current role at Jumo as an Agile Lead. I’m so lucky to be at a company that appreciates the agile journey, and it’s all because of my involvement with SUGSA!
I’m currently working at Jumo as an Agile Lead. Before that I was working at 22seven as an Agile Facilitator. I come from a counseling background and have been in the Agile space for about 4 years.
I have been working in the Cape Town Software industry for a number of years, primarily as a developer and more recently also as a scrum master. Initially I mostly worked in more traditional / waterfall environments, until I was shown the light of Agile. As a result, a big focus for me has become helping others to see the light and help and support them on their own Agile journeys.
SUGSA and the amazing humans that comprise it’s community have played a massive role in supporting and inspiring me along my Agile journey and I’m really proud and excited to serve that community as a committee member.
I am one of the few people that have never done a Waterfall project. I was taught Agile / Scrum from the first day of my education in Advanced Computer Scientist and since then it became a natural way of thinking both in work and private life. I fully live up to the saying: you don’t do agile, you become agile! In my career, I have fulfilled all scrum roles: Developer, Product Owner, and Scrum Master. At the moment I work as an Agile coach and trainer at Agile of Course.
My first introduction to SUGSA was when I moved from Denmark to Cape Town 2 years ago. I quickly realized how amazing SUGSA is in bringing the community together. I have a deep respect for the current SUGSA committee, on how they manage to keep up the standard and continuously adapt to what the community needs and wants. It will not be easy to follow their footsteps, but I hope and trust that with my many years’ experience in the field I can add a different take on things and maintain the continuous growth of the organization. I would consider it a great honor to have the opportunity to serve the SUGSA committee in the best possible way.
Agile has felt right from the beginning and Scrum is my favorite Agile flavour. I have been able to witness how Scrum can transform and help teams to be their best. I am passionate about helping others learn about Scrum so that they too can feel empowered to reach their full potential.
It has been a great pleasure being part of the Agile community, including my coaching circle this year. I really enjoy sharing resources, experiences, and working together to resolve common issues. With that in mind, I want to use my experience in organising events and facilitating communication to give back to the community. I am all about going the extra mile and making things possible. I am organised, committed and very approachable.
I would love to be part of a team that services the Agile community and champions new and exciting outlooks on how we do Scrum every day. I want to encourage others to share their experiences and challenge themselves. My wish is that people who join SUGSA feel inspired, supported and included – as I have been.
I have been an IT professional since 2009 and am currently an Agile Coach & Trainer at Think Agile. I have previously worked as a Software Engineer, Scrum Master, and Delivery Manager for a team of developers in Taipei. My passion is coaching, enabling, and leading people to do their best work, focusing on personal, career, and organizational growth. The SUGSA community has rapidly improved my abilities by providing a network of smart, humble, and helpful individuals and creating a safe space in which we can all learn. I would like to give back to SUGSA by striving to extend and grow the current high standard of the community by offering my time, energy, experiences, and positive outlook as a SUGSA Committee member.
