Exploring Cynefin and Agile

by Sonja Blignaut

“By 2016, the Cynefin Framework will be used in 10% of all IT operations organisations as a sensemaking methodology” Gartner (direct quote)

The Cynefin framework is one of the leading sense-making tools for Management, built on a foundation of complex adaptive systems theory. It provides a pragmatic means to recognise that different types of system require different leadership/operating strategies. It is extensively used in the SCRUM, LEAN and KANBAN communities and provides a means to bridge the gap between IT and both strategic and operational leadership.

This session will explore Cynefin in detail, looking at its dynamic nature, the more recent domain models, and how it can practically be used by Agile practitioners. We will among other things explore pre-scrum processes, the role of boundaries and enabling constraints.
