Being a Good Manager – Discussion by Scenario

The Talk:

During the talk we will run through some scenarios from my very real world and discuss what a lead developer, manager, CEO, agile coach, scrum master, facilitator would do to deal with them in the best possible way. For each scenario, I’ll tell a story and present some possible approaches to handling the situation. Naturally there is often only one best answer, many right answers and then the ones we all actually do in practice.

Learn that being a good manager requires a good mix of theory, empathy, vulnerability and intuition to be effective. Hopefully we’ll converge on a few salient practical lessons that will help us all be better managers. At worst we’ll reminisce about how difficult it is to do the things that make a team awesome.

The Speaker:

Greg van Berkel is open to other people’s ideas, often introverted, slightly arrogant and a natural coder. He is a software developer at heart with an honours degree in Computer Science and over 16 years of experience building commercial software solutions. These days he mixes his time between actively learning how to run a company, learning how to manage a team and coding blissfully.
