On Saturday 17th November 2018, SUGSA will be hosting a Coaching Day in Cape Town. The day will be facilitated by two amazing coaches: Pavel Dabrytski and Gill Baronetti.

Our intention with the Coaching Day is to provide attendees an opportunity to learn and practice practical coaching skills. Participants will be given the chance to practice in a safe space as well as receive feedback on the day from the facilitator and other participants.

This day is aimed at scrum masters, agile coaches or any agile team members who currently are or want to move into a coaching role. This is an amazing opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.

Agenda:

1.  Coaching Psychology – Basics of Coaching Conversation

by Pavel Dabrytski

Recently I received a call, “Hey dude, I don’t know nothing about Agile, but I need to become an Agile coach a-s-a-p – my company just got a new contract.” I laughed for a second, explained that it takes a bit longer than a week to learn to coach, and wished him luck. I also knew that, shortly, he would be walking into his customer’s office in this new role.

Agile Coach is the new black! People forgot the true meaning of the word coaching, and, today, it is hard for clients to differentiate between a good practitioner and a bad one.

I offer this workshop to explore the science of coaching and the ways in which it works. We discuss open-ended enquiry, listening, reflections, and coaching arc – bringing it all together into practice. By understanding the new field of coaching psychology, you will become a better Agile practitioner.

2. A Competency Framework for the Agile Coach

by Gill Baronetti

Coaching is not the only thing an Agile Coach does. Far from it. There are many facets to the Agile Coach’s role and they are all equally important.

In this practical, experiential workshop you’ll learn about the 8 facets of the Agile coaching competency framework, what is entailed and what skills are required for each.

It will help point any aspiring Agile Coach towards which areas they need to focus on and/or develop.

3. Open Space

In this session we will open the space to all attendees and create a safe, informal and collaborative environment where all are welcome to present questions to explore, experiences to share, ideas to present, or conversations to start. We will build a very informal agenda of topics based on the questions, experiences, ideas, and conversations. The group will then self organise to structure the session how they deem best based on the agenda and all are free to choose to participate in the parts of the session that they feel are most valuable to them.

About Gill and Pavel

Gill Baronetti
Gill Baronetti
IC Agile Certified Professional, Trainer, Facilitator & Professional Coach.

As an IT project manager for many years, I often noticed that it wasn’t so much the methodology a delivery team followed that determined its success; it was much more the team morale, their ability to collaborate and communicate, as well as the support from leadership, that made success more likely.

Since coming across Agile and Lean, I have been delighted to discover that everything I believe about getting the best out of people and teams, is encompassed in the Agile philosophy. I have since both witnessed and been involved in many turnarounds of teams who have successfully transitioned to Agile.

I currently work as a professional coach, trainer and consultant in both Agile and non-Agile environments and regularly coach Agile coaches in my coaching practice. I also develop and lead courses and programs in conflict management, coaching skills for managers, and leadership development.
